Did you know?

According to a study by the Gallop Organization and Consumer Reports, dentists are among the top five most trusted professionals.

What do powdered fruit, talc, honey, dried flowers, mice, and lizard livers have in common? They have all been ingredients in ancient toothpaste and powder. Yum.

Attention Chocolate Lovers… Many dentists agree, raisins can cause more tooth decay than chocolate. Sticky foods, such as raisins and dried fruits, can stay on the teeth longer and develop more decay.

According to a study at the University of Connecticut, too much toothpaste early in life is responsible for more than 70 percent of fluorosis cases (staining or mottling of tooth enamel that develops when children swallow fluoridated toothpaste). Although this problem is only cosmetic, it is recommended children under six only use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste and be reminded to spit it out after brushing.

Wondering about the latest in dentistry?

We're working very hard to make sure your visits are convenient, comfortable and gentle. To that end, we investigate all the latest technologies and techniques. Click on the desired topic to learn more:

Invisible Clear Braces

FDA approved invisible clear braces are the “invisible” way to straighten your teeth without wearing conventional metal braces. We uses a series of clear, removable custom-made aligners to move your teeth. Because you remove your aligners before you eat and drink, there are no food restrictions or problems with flossing or brushing. This technology is also more comfortable, avoiding the mouth abrasions that can be caused by the metal and wires of conventional braces. And this technology is also more convenient, since you are likely to spend less time in the doctor’s office getting adjustments.

We use 3-D computer imaging technology to design the complete treatment plan, from the initial teeth positioning to the desired final positioning. This 3-D imaging allows you to preview the final positioning of your teeth before you start treatment. Custom-made aligners are created based on the imaging information. Each of these aligners moves teeth incrementally and is worn for about 2 weeks. Typically, you will visit your dentist once every 6 weeks for “progress reports.” Not every situation can be treated with invisible clear braces, so call the office to get an evaluation to see if you can be helped with this new technology.

Zoom! Whitening

Why Zoom!?
After brushing and flossing, do you look in the mirror and wonder why your clean teeth look dingy or yellow? You may have even tried a home whitening system, but found the results disappointing. If this is your life, you need Zoom! Whitening.

A safe and effective system, Zoom! Whitening is used in over 15,000 dental offices internationally. The painless process can remove the toughest stains and create a dazzlingly white, long-lasting smile in just one hour.

What Causes Tooth Discoloration?
Every day, your teeth get a thorough workout. While the top layers are made of durable enamel and dentin, they can become discolored by wine, tea, coffee, or tobacco. Even medication, antibiotics, excessive fluoride, and aging can cause stains and discoloration.

You will find a vast variety of over-the-counter home whitening products on the market, but the professional Zoom! Whitening system elicits far greater results. If you want whiter teeth, ask us about Zoom! Whitening today. First you’ll need a thorough examination so we can tell you if this is the right teeth whitening system for you.

The Zoom! Whitening Process
After making yourself comfy in our operatory chair, we’ll place protective coverings over your lips and gums. Then we’ll apply the Zoom! Whitening gel to your teeth. The active ingredient in the gel is a pH-balanced hydrogen peroxide. A special low-heat light will activate the gel. It will penetrate the enamel and dentin in your teeth to remove deep stains and discoloration. Afterwards, we will apply a fluoride treatment to complete the one-hour procedure. That’s it – in and out. Zoom!

Many patients report that Zoom! Whitening has made their teeth six to ten shades whiter. Some have even said that their smile became brighter days after their dental appointment. More importantly, the results lasted for years. If you notice any discoloration, the Zoom! Whitening System includes a take-home touch-up kit with comfortable custom-made trays. Regular brushing and flossing, plus an annual touch-up at home, and your teeth can remain dazzlingly white for years.

Safe and Effective
Lately, the media has been abuzz with articles about the safety of teeth whitening. Extensive research and clinical studies by organizations such as the American Dental Association indicate that professional teeth whitening under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact, many dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure.

As with any tooth whitening product, Zoom! Whitening is not recommended for children under 13 and pregnant or lactating women. If you have light sensitivity from undergoing PUVA therapy (Psoralen + UV Radiation) or other photochemotherapy, you should not use Zoom! Whitening. People taking light sensitive drugs or substances should also consult the dentist and primary physician prior to using Zoom! Whitening. If you have strong gag reflex or feel anxious about dentistry, talk to your dentist about helpful options.

You don’t have to live with dingy, yellow teeth anymore. A bright, sparkling smile can change the way people see you and how you feel about yourself. So what are you waiting for? Hurry in for your Zoom! Whitening treatment; it will put a smile on your face.

Dental Implants

When permanent teeth are lost, regardless of the reason or number of teeth, dental implants can offer a “new lease on life.” They are superior to other choices because they are solid, secure, and esthetic. After nearly 35 years of use, they have a 90-95% proven success rate in appropriately chosen cases.

An implant is a special surgical grade titanium post, manufactured to highly precise specifications, under strict sterile conditions, that is inserted surgically into the jawbone below the gum surface. With proper use of the newest anesthetics and medications you need not be concerned about pain. As the bone bonds to the post, it forms a secure foundation onto which your new teeth are then attached and shaped to match your mouth. The number of teeth being replaced will determine the best kind of restoration for you. Implants can help replace a single tooth, or a full set of teeth. If you have been suffering with partial or full dentures, or are missing teeth, or feel you need teeth extracted, do not hesitate to call to be evaluated for implants.
